Tonight’s Meeting: Four cameras. One take. No edits. Real time.

Hi all,

Tonight’s meeting will be in Boyd Orr LT2 from 7pm. We’ll be watching
“Timecode” which is an experimental film (1hr 37mins long) shot with
digital cameras and no editing. It’s award-winning, dramatic,
influential and more than a little brilliant.

If you’d like more info check out http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0220100/
or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timecode_(film)

We’ll be starting fairly sharpish at 7:05pm so please aim to be there by
7pm; earlier if you want to bring up any other business (e.g. the
exhibition) and if you just want a chat about something (e.g. gnome
decoration or “HDR” versus “exposure blending”) then we’ll probably have
a post-film discussion, possibly at Firebird or another bar/pub!

Regards,
Sean.

Exhibition Submissions Complete!

“This was a triumph!
I’m making a note here:
“HUGE SUCCESS!!”

It’s hard to overstate
my satisfaction.”

GU Photosoc:
We do what we must
because we can’t be arsed doing coursework etc.

Perhaps I’m jumping the gun a little bit, particularly as “huge success”
does not include the web form breaking for many. However, we’ve received
loads of submissions to the exhibition. A big thank you to all those
that have submitted!

65 photographers and photographeresses have submitted a total of 270
images. Whether or not your images make it into the final ~30 on the
wall of Firebird, I hope you’ll all join us for the opening night on the
29th of this month at Firebird and particularly the closing auction on
27th April.

If you’ve been trapped down a well or having problems with the form (the
latter is perhaps more likely) please feel free to send us submissions
throughout the weekend and this will probably be alright if you catch it
before we start judging – no guarantees, so be quick!

Sean.

Meeting Tomorrow in Boyd Orr LT2 + Last Week for Submissions!

Hey all,

Tomorrow’s meeting will be held in Boyd Orr LT2 where Stuart will be
leading a play-around-with-Photoshop session; if you have a favourite
technique or tool in Photoshop please come along and demonstrate it.
This event should be useful for those familiar with Photoshop but also
those that are complete beginners to it or digital image manipulation in
general. Afterwards: off to Firebird or similar venue :)

There are now only five days to submit your images for the exhibition!
If you haven’t yet done so please head over to
http://guphotosoc.co.uk/exhibition/submit/ and send us some of your best
images. We plan to start picking apart the submissions **this weekend**
so this is not a soft deadline. Please don’t not submit out of modesty
or indecision – all submissions are worthwhile and you never know how
your images will be interpreted by others. Often people are very
self-deprecating of great work.

If you have a particular reason for delay (e.g. waiting for scans to get
back from a lab) please get in touch at guphotosoc@gmail.com and
hopefully we can work something out.

See you tomorrow!
Sean.

any questions or clarifications needed about the exhibition or the terms

good opportunity to do so.

And there’s always http://flickr.com/groups/guphotosoc/ and

Monday Meeting: QM at 7pm

Hey all,

Things are really hotting up with the exhibition. More details about
that forthcoming. If you’re free for some time this week or next to go
around with Stuart and I to some big first year classes and hand out
leaflets to those that put their hand up, please get in touch.

The next GUPS meeting will be another informal at the QM Food Factory at
7pm. If you’ve never been to a meeting before, these are very informal
occasions excellent for meeting some new people!

Give it a try, though we may bite.

Regards,
Sean Anderson.

please bring along whatever equipment you have (including tripod,
external flash, etc).
